Earth Day certificate

Polar Technology is absorbing the cost to offset the carbon footprint of the 2009 Nashville Earth Day Festival (NEDF) on April 18 at Centennial Park. Polar Technology has joined forces with the city and NEDF committee to insure that this is a "carbon neutral" event.

"We encourage individuals to "seek ZERO" as it relates to the carbon footprint for their entertainment, businesses and life," said Ted Atwood, President/Founder of Polar Technology. "Polar takes great pride in our efforts with Nashville in honoring Earth Day and making this festival environmentally friendly."

Calculating electricity, travel and food used by the musicians, exhibitors, food vendors and all attendees; it is estimated that the entire event will create about 60 TONS of CO2. Because of Polar Technology, the carbon footprint of the festival will be offset by the continued proper destruction of harmful gases and through investments in alternative fuels and energy.

Attendees can help keep our carbon emissions lower by walking, biking or carpooling to the event. The festival will also have a large photovoltaic generator on display. If the sun is out the plan is to take the food vendors "off the grid" by providing them with clean, carbon-free, solar-generated electricity. The 2009 Earth Day Festival is a FREE event from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Environmental exhibits and workshops on clean air, water, food and farming, cooking demonstrations, organic gardening and much more will take place through out the day. There will also be youth activities and live entertainment.

Polar Technology also donated 6,000 tons of carbon credits to offset the carbon footprint of the 2008 Presidential Debate at Nashville's Belmont University.

Description of the program

Through our actions, we have earned credits on the CCX. The money earned by those credits is invested in alternative power initiatives to reduce the amount of CO2 that is emitted into the atmosphere.

About the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX)

CCX launched in 2003, is the world's first and North America's only active voluntary, legally binding integrated trading system to reduce emissions of all six major greenhouse gases (GHGs), with offset projects worldwide. [More]

CO2 Offsets

A carbon offset is a financial instrument representing a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Although there are six primary categories of greenhouse gases, carbon offsets are measured in metric tons of carbon dioxide-equivalent (CO2e). One carbon offset represents the reduction of one metric ton of carbon dioxide, or its equivalent in other greenhouse gases. [More]
